Board of Directors

Composition of the Central Appraisal District of Johnson County Board of Directors

In 2023, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 2, which added Section 6.0301 to the Texas Tax Code. This section provides that an appraisal district in a county with a population of 75,000 or more is governed by a board of nine directors.

The Central Appraisal District of Johnson County Board of Directors is composed of both appointed and elected directors. Five directors are appointed by the taxing units that participate in the district, in the manner prescribed by Section 6.03 of the Texas Tax Code. Three directors are elected by majority vote at the general election for state and county officers by the voters of Johnson County. The county assessor-collector serves as an ex officio director of the board.

To summarize, the Board is made up of 9 directors:

5 directors appointed by the taxing units in the district
3 directors elected by voters in the county
The county tax assessor-collector, who is the ex officio director
